Japan collects three silver medals at Hong Kong

While the horses representing the home nation are so strong and dominated the international event at Sha Tin on December 9th, Team Japan fought bravely and collected three silver medals.
Lys Gracieux(JPN), four-year-old filly by Heart's Cry(JPN), owned by Carrot Club and trained by Yoshito Yahagi, delivered the strongest challenge at homestretch of G1/Hong Kong Vase over 2,400m and hit the front at a furlong out, however, Exultant(IRE), one of the best stayers in Hong Kong, fought back and wore down Lys Gracieux by neck. Eziyra(IRE), one of eight runners traveled from Europe, was third, finishing two and half lengths behind Lys Gracieux, and Waldgeist(GB), the 29 to 10 favorite trained by Andre Fabre, finished 5th.
The most impressive performance on 2018 Hong Kong International Day is no doubt displayed by Beauty Generation(NZ), who won G1/Hong Kong Mile by three lengths, and the second finisher, who was better than any other runners in the international filed, which included One Master(GB), winner of G1/Prix de la Foret, and Comin' Through(AUS), winner of G1/Doomben Cup, is Vivlos(JPN), owned by Kazuhiro Sasaki and trained by Yasuo Tomomichi, It is swan song for the five-year-old mare by Deep Impact(JPN), and the winner of G1/Dubai Turf in 2017 has run her last race.
Deirdre(JPN), four-year-old filly by Harbinger who was supported as the 9 to 5 favorite in G1/Hong Kong Cup, is another female Japanese athlete who impressed the racing fans in the world. While the tempo of race was slower than expected, the filly trained by Mitsuru Hashida covered final two furlongs for 22.37 seconds, the quickest among nine runners, and finished second to Glorious Forever(GB), who made all the feature race of international event. Deirdre, bred by Northern Farm, was offered at yearling session of 2015 JRHA Select Sale and bought by Touji Morita for 21,000,000yen, US$169,355 at the exchange rate of the sales day.

Preview of 2018 Hong Kong International Races

Nine horses are representing Japan at 2018 Hong Kong International Races at Sha Tin on December 9th, including Deirdre(JPN), who is the graduate of JRHA Select Sale and one of ten runners in the field of G1/Hong Kong Cup, which carries the total purse of HK$28 million, approximately US$3.568 million.
Deirdre, four-year-old filly by Harbinger, is bred by Northern Farm and bought at yearling session of 2015 JRHA Select Sale by Touji Morita for 21,000,000yen, US$169,355 at the exchange rate of the sales day.
Under the care of Mitsuru Hashida at Ritto Training Center, Deirdre has won seven races, including G1/Shuka Sho in October 2017, from nineteen starts and earned 295,790,000yen, approximately US$2.58 million, which is more than 15 times of her price at the sale, in Japan. In addition, she finished third to Godolphin's Benbatl in G1/Dubai Turf in March this year.
Deirdre's best price at ante-post market is 3 to 1, second favorite in the field. The market leader with the odd of 2 to 1 is Sungrazer(JPN), four-year-old colt by Deep Impact, who finished second in G1/Tenno Sho Autumn last time out. Staphanos(JPN), seven-year-old horse by Deep Impact, is another Japanese representative in Hong Kong Cup.
Lys Gracieux(JPN) and Crocosmia(JPN), first and second finisher in G1/Queen Elizabeth Cup on November 11th at Kyoto, are Japanese flag bearers in G1/Hong Kong Vase.
Solo challenger from Japan in G1/Hong Kong Sprint is Fine Needle(JPN), winner of G1/Takamatsunomiya Kinen in March and G1/Sprinters Stakes in September.
And Persian Knight(JPN), winner of last year's G1/Mile Championship, Mozu Ascot(USA), winner of G1/Yasuda Kinen in June this year, and Vivlos(JPN), winner of two G1s including G1/Dubai Turf in 2017, will be representing Japan in G1/Hong Kong Mile.

The Japanese legendary sire Deep Impact missed out on the Epsom Derby with his high class Japanese-bred colt Saxon Warrior's defeat on Saturday, but was quick to make up for it with Study of Man winning the French Derby (Prix du Jockey Club) at Chantilly on Sunday, June 3rd.
The Niarchos Family's Study of Man settled in mid-pack early under Stephan Pas quier and showed terrific acceleration to hold off the long-shot Patascoy (Fr) by a half-length. The Pascal Bary trained colt has provided the first Europe an Derby title for his sire Deep Impact.
Study of Man is bred and owned by the Niarchos Family's Flaxman Stables Irland Ltd., and out of Storm Cat mare Second Happiness, a daughter of the great racemare Miesque.
Deep Impact is quickly becoming the world's dominant stallion, and the French Derby victory reminds you to buy Deep Impact with 26 yearlings and 14 foals are available in the 2018 JRHA Select Sale at Northern Horse Park on July 9th and 10th.

The Japanese-bred SAXON WARRIOR landed the Two Thousands Guineas

The son of the Japanese super star Deep Impact, Saxon Warrior won the first leg of the triple crown for British version, G1 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 5th. With Jockey Donnacha O'Brien on board, Saxon Warrior showed brilliant acceleration from midpack and edged clearly for 1.1/2-length victory.
The Aidan O'Brien trained colt achieved the first British classic glory for the Japanese-bred thoroughbreds and succeeded to be undefeated in four career starts. Out of the European champion juvenile filly Maybe (by Galileo), Saxon Warrior rounded out the juvenile campaign with the G1 Racing Post Trophy success before he made his seasonal debut in the race. According to some British bookmakers, the Ballydoyle's rising star is now favorite for the Derby at Epsom on June 2.
