Highland Reel, winner of four Graded One Stakes including the last edition of Hong Kong Vase and the 1 to 2 red-hot favorite in the field, tried to make all, however, Satono Crown's late kick was so much impressive and he caught Highland Real at 20 meters to go.

MIKKI ISLE (JPN) grabbed his second G1 title

Mikki Isle

The 2014 NHK Mile Cup winner Mikki Isle clinched his second G1 title in the Mile Championship at Kyoto Racecourse on November 20. The field was very competitive which included Satono Aladdin, the multiple graded stakes winner and the 2011 JRHA Select Sale graduate, Isla Bonita, the 2014 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) winner, and Young Man Power who had succeeded to be undefeated in three recent starts.
Mikki Isle, a five-year-old horse by Deep Impact, was sent to the race favorite and set the pace as planned, with Neorealism sitting handy from second. The two dueled fiercely in the stretch, however Mikki Isle shifted into another top gear at 100m remaining and shook off Isla Bonita by a head.
After winning the G1 NHK Mile Cup in 2014, Mikki Isle finished disappointing in 1600m-races but showed better performances in the shorter distance, finishing second in the G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen (1200m) in March and the G1 Sprinters Stakes (1200m) in October respectively. He captured seven wins, four seconds and one third in 18 career starts. The race was actually no without controversy. When Mikki Isle and Neorealism dueled strongly down the stretch, Mikki Isle appeared to hang out, forcing Neorealism into the path of Satono Aladdin, the Yutaka Take-ridden Decipher and another JRHA Select Sale graduate Danon Shark, all of whom were gaining fast. After stewards' inquiry for about ten minutes, the result stood, with Mikki Isle declared the winner.
Trained by Ritto Training Centre based Hidetaka Otonashi, Mikki Isle who was bred by Northern Farm, was offered to the 2012 JRHA July Select Yearling Session and bought by Mizuki Noda for 76,000,000yen. He is out of Rock of Gibraltar mare Star Isle. Mikki Isle has now earned approximately US $3.8 million.
